User Group

The user group of the Basic Plasma Science Facility (BaPSF) provides a platform to the past, existing, and potential users of the facility to give feedback to BaPSF and funding agencies on facility improvements, help in identifying frontier research topics in plasma physics, and help initiate collaborative research efforts. The current head of the BaPSF user group is Prof. Frederick N. Skiff (University of Iowa). The past head of the user group is Dr. Pat Colestock (Los Alamos National Lab).

The user group and BaPSF staff assemble during annual meetings of the Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) of American Physical Society. Announcements for the meeting venue and dates are made well in advance using the user-group mailing list and DPP meeting newsletter.

The first onsite meeting of the user group was held at UCLA in April 2015 (meeting agenda). Purpose of this meeting was to acquaint potential users with the capabilities of the facility, allow present users to suggest improvements, and identify issues that would enhance the operation of the facility.

A position paper and list of recommendations generated by facility users can be downloaded here.
